Fox News is reporting that the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is contemplating a controversial measure to modify high school American history curriculum. Under the proposal, 11th grade American History would be limited to the period from 1877 to the modern era. Lessons related to our nation’s founding (the Declaration of Independence and the American Revolution) would be dropped. It has been stated that in a 10th grade civics and economics course that students would receive instruction on the Constitution and Federalist Papers. The Charlotte Observer is reporting that this measure has created a large uproar among North Carolina citizens. The conservative group Called2Action has called on people to contact Rebecca Garland (Chief Academic Officer with the State Department of Public Instruction) to express their opposition to the proposal. The cursive continued, then abruptly stopped, as if pages were missing. James Wilson was a delegate to the Constitutional Convention from the State of Pennsylvania and served as a member of the Committee of Detail.
